Kamala Harris


Kamala Devi Harris is an American politician from the United States. Born on the 20th of October 1964, she is the 49th Vice President of the United States. Kamala Devi Harris is the first vice president to be female and the most powerful female politician in U.S. history, as being the first African American and first Asian American vice president. As a member of the Democratic Party, she previously served as the attorney general for California from 2011 to 2017 and also as a United States senator representing California between 2017 and 2021. Harris was born in Oakland, California. She graduated from Howard University as well as the University of California Hastings College of the Law. Harris started her career in the Alameda County District Attorney's Office prior to her move to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office and then the City Attorney of San Francisco's office. In 2003 she was elected San Francisco District Attorney. In 2010, she was elected Attorney General of California and then re-elected in 2014. Harris served as the junior United States senator from California from 2017 until 2021. Harris defeated Loretta Sanchez in the 2016 Senate election, becoming the second African American woman and the first South Asian American to serve in the United States Senate. Harris was a senator and advocated for healthcare reform as well as federal cannabis de-scheduling the possibility of citizenship for immigrants who are not legally documented and the DREAM Act, a ban against assault weapons and progressive tax reform. She earned national attention for her pointed questions of Trump administration officials during Senate hearings, which included Trump's second Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh and was accused of sexual assault.
