Barbara Ann Corcoran (born March 10 1949) is an American businesswoman, investor speaking, consultant writer, syndicated columnist, TV personality, author and author. The Corcoran Group was a New York City real estate brokerage that she founded. NRT purchased it for $66 million in 2001. Corcoran later left the company. Corcoran was born in Edgewater (New Jersey) as the second of ten children in a Catholic Irish working class family. Florence Corcoran's mother was a housewife. Edwin W. Corcoran Jr. was her father. He moved from one job to the next throughout Corcoran’s childhood. The family relied on food deliveries from an artisanal local grocery store for free food. Corcoran recalls her father, who was a drunk at times excessively, and treated her mother disrespectfully and condescendingly, particularly after he'd had some drinks. Corcoran was struggling at school and discovered later that she was dyslexic. Corcoran entered the high school system in St. Cecilia High School Englewood after she had left her Catholic elementary school. Corcoran completed her studies at Leonia High School with a diploma in English, despite not completing several classes in her freshman years.
